There has arguably been no more consistent presence in live events over the last century than the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The holiday-season production has performed more than 100 shows per year, every year dating back to 1992, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. In total, the show has grossed a wallet-busting $2.15 billion (with a “B”) from 9,462 performances since 1992.
The latest haul of 210 shows at Radio City Music Hall between Nov. 9, 2018 and Jan. 6, 2019 was reported to Boxscore this week. The shows delivered an all-time high for the annual production, grossing $97.1 million -- up 11 percent from the previous record, set one year ago.
In all, the production has grossed $1.7 billion and sold 27.9 million tickets, just from the annual Radio City Music Hall tenure. The show tours as well, adding $436.5 million and 10 million tickets from shows in Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Mexico City and many other markets throughout North America. Combined, it was the top-earning tour of 1996 and 1999 and ranked among the top 10 tours of the year another 21 times. Altogether, its annual gross eclipsed $100 million six times, and attendance surpassed 2 million on four occasions.
After the record-setting run in 2018-19, the Rockettes will surely be back later this year to charge closer toward a nine-figure total at Radio City.
